Serving Colma Homes: Chimney, Fireplace & Dryer Vent Service

Homeowners in Colma can book chimney, fireplace and dryer vent work with us. That includes a first look at a fireplace you haven't lit in a while, a repair on a leaking chimney, or clearing a dryer duct packed with lint.

Chimney services in Colma: what homes can book

For the chimney itself, the work runs from routine sweeping and creosote removal to clearing blockages, odors and animal nests. If you aren't sure what shape the flue is in, a chimney inspection is the usual place to start. It's especially useful after buying a home, after a storm, or before the first fire of the season. Camera inspections let us see down the flue where a flashlight can't reach.

When something needs fixing, our chimney repair service covers leaks and flashing, crowns, tuckpointing and masonry, liners, dampers, and prefab chases and chase covers. Many leaks and nest problems start at the top of the flue. In those cases, chimney cap installation is often the simplest fix. A cap keeps rain, debris and animals out, and spark arrestor and animal screen options are available.

Fireplaces, stoves and gas units

Wood-burning fireplaces, inserts and wood stoves can be cleaned, inspected and repaired, from the firebox and smoke chamber to refractory panels, glass and doors. Gas fireplace and gas appliance work is offered. That includes service and maintenance, repairs, gas logs, new installations and conversions. Electric fireplaces can be repaired as well.

Dryer vents

A dryer that runs long or a laundry room that gets hot often points to a restricted vent. We clean dryer vents and remove lint and blockages, including vents that exit through the roof. We can also test airflow, then repair, replace, reroute or relocate a duct that's too long, crushed or badly routed.

Signs it's time to call

  • Smoke drifts back into the room when the fire is lit
  • A musty or smoky smell from the fireplace, especially on damp days
  • Water stains on the ceiling or wall next to the chimney
  • Scratching or nesting sounds inside the flue
  • Cracked or crumbling brick or mortar at the top of the chimney
  • Clothes needing two dryer cycles, or the dryer feeling unusually hot

Colma chimney & vent questions

Should I have my chimney inspected before using the fireplace again?

Yes. If the fireplace has sat unused for a season or longer, have it inspected before you light it. Nests, debris, cracked flue tiles and creosote buildup aren't visible from the hearth, and any of them can turn a normal fire into a smoke or fire hazard.

Why is my dryer taking so long to dry a load?

The most common cause is a restricted vent. Lint builds up inside the duct, or the duct is crushed, kinked or too long, so moist air can't escape. An airflow test shows how much air is actually moving, and cleaning or rerouting the vent usually brings drying times back down.

Does a gas fireplace need service if it doesn't burn wood?

Yes. Gas fireplaces don't build up creosote, but they still need regular service. The venting, burner, pilot assembly, logs and glass all need checking so the unit lights reliably and exhausts properly. Dust, spider webs and loose parts can cause starting problems or soot on the glass.

What causes a chimney to smell inside the house?

Most chimney odors come from creosote deposits, trapped moisture, or debris and animal nests in the flue. The smell often gets stronger in damp weather, or when the house pulls air down the chimney. A cleaning removes the source, and a cap or damper repair can keep the smell from coming back.
